Andrew Stevens Obituary

Andrew “Andy” Stevens was born on July 3, 1947, the youngest of four siblings.  He passed away on March 8, 2024 at the age of 76 at his home in Tenaha. He was preceded in death by his parents (Franklin and Dorothy), his brother (Michael) his wife (Carol), and his beloved dog Tippy.. He is survived by his sisters Amanda (Nelson) Snyder and Margaret (Donald) Jefferds, his children Rachel (William) Rose and Jeremy (Christina) Stevens, his grandchildren (Phoenix Conditt, Joshua Stevens, Annabelle Stevens, Christopher Rose), and many nieces, nephews, their children, and friends.

Andrew grew up in the small community of Alfred Station, NY. He graduated high school in 1965 and went on to serve in the United States Navy from January of 1966 to November 1969. He would first meet the love of his life, Carol, on the school bus when he was a senior in high school. She was in kindergarten and the bus driver sat them together to make her behave. They would be reintroduced in 1976 and after one date he told his sister that that was the woman he would marry. As it turned out, he was right – he and Carol would be married on January 7, 1977. Shortly after they moved to Houston, TX.

In Houston they began their family when daughter Rachel was born December 30, 1977. They moved to Lufkin, TX shortly after. On February 18, 1981 their son Jeremy was born. During his time in Lufkin he was very involved with the local Christian radio station, KSWP, where he served as a volunteer disc jockey for more than ten years.

Andy retired from the United States Postal service, where he worked from 1998-2008 as a city carrier for the town of Center. Past work experiences included working in his dad’s garage, as a bus driver for Spring Branch ISD in New York, and Brookshire Brothers warehouse in Lufkin, TX. He had also served on the board of directors for the Hope Project in Tenaha and was a past assistant chief for the volunteer fire department in Alfred Station, NY.

A memorial service will be held on March 13, 2024. The service will be held at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, TX at 3 pm (511 Graves Dr, Timpson, TX 75975, 9362542424). Andy asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the church he attended for many years, Nacogdoches Christian Fellowship.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
