Billie Allen Obituary

Billie Joy Allen, 91, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 5th in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on June 26, 1932, in Center, Texas to Edward Fitts and Zelma (Brittain) Fitts. Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas with Bro. Tim Lovelady officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.

Billie Joy grew up in the Huber community, but was never too fond of her name, so everyone called her B.J. In a sweet turn of events, she fell in love with a boy who also wasn’t too fond of his name and went by his initials, too, L.G. The two would marry in 1948 and have two sons, Ricky born in 1953 and Bradley born in 1956. When her boys got older, B.J. went back to school for nursing at Panola College. She worked in the hospital in Center for several years before taking over as the school nurse at Timpson ISD.

After retiring from the school, she took a position with DETCOG, planning trips through their R.S.V.P. program. She led tours all over the United States, cruises to Alaska, and even a trip to Europe. She was an extremely creative person who loved painting and making things with her husband and selling them at Canton Trade Days. She spent her spare time gardening, but her favorite pastime was decorating her home to match every holiday or season.

BJ was sweet, thoughtful & nurturing but also a spitfire. You never had to wonder what she was thinking, or how she felt about you or a situation. She was especially passionate and protective of her favorite sports teams, which she followed religiously her entire adult life. You better not say a bad word about the Timpson Bears, Houston Astros, or Dallas Cowboys around BJ! She loved watching her teams and was always up to date on the games and players.

She is survived by her brother Jerry Fitts & wife Wanda; five grandchildren, Michael Allen, Kyle Allen, and wife Tisha, Amy Allen and husband, Bryan Stinnett, Katie Norman and husband, Clayton, and Jacob Allen; twelve great-grandchildren, Taylor Morris-Fanguy and husband, Taylor, Tyler Morris, Taran Morris, Lukas Allen, Clyde and Tully Stinnett, Jordan Allen, Nicolas Allen, Marina Allen, Alana Allen, Emery Norman and Ellison Norman; two great-great-grandchildren, Sam Fanguy and Beau Fanguy; numerous cousins, nieces, & nephews; and dearest family friends, Robin and Duncan Connell, and Brenda Allen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Allen and her sons Ricky Allen and Bradley Allen, her father, Edward Fitts, her mother Zelma Brittain Fitts, and brothers Waymon & Maurice Fitts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Glenda King, Shirley Parker, and Debra McLeroy, who so lovingly stood beside BJ during her last years at home.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Allen's service are Kyle Allen, Jacob Allen, Bryan Stinnett, Clayton Norman, William Melvin Edwards, and Jeffery McElroy.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
